Pros

  • Sturdy metal body
  • Very good keyboard and big haptic touchpad
  • Bright, accurate 120Hz screen with no flicker
  • Strong multi-core speed
  • Screwed base makes repairs easier
  • Fast in Arm-native apps
  • Very quiet for a Surface

Cons

  • Thicker and heavier than rivals
  • Glossy touchscreen reflects a lot
  • Small arrow keys, average webcam
  • Memory soldered and storage upgrades are expensive
  • Basic 12-month warranty
  • Slow-ish when apps need emulation
  • Slow screen response
  • NotebookcheckJul 2024

Tested 13.8-inch X Elite 16GB/512GB: the first Windows laptop that seriously rivals the MacBook Air, though it's chunkier and heavier.

  • NotebookcheckFeb 2025

Tested 15-inch X Elite 16GB/256GB: great battery and quiet running with native apps, but emulated software is no faster than cheaper x86 laptops.
