Each part is rated on one scale for every smartwatch and band, from reviewers' accuracy tests and measured battery life where they exist, what reviewers found, specs and owner reports. It rates the product itself, not how good it is for the price.

Pros

  • Heart rate as good as a chest strap on steady and hard runs
  • Wellness features (Body Battery, sleep coach) feel useful
  • Gorgeous AMOLED screen
  • About 10 days with everything on
  • Heart rate and GPS accurate enough for training
  • Big bright AMOLED screen
  • Mic and speaker for calls from the phone

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Only basic running metrics
  • Sleep often over-counted versus Whoop/Fitbit/Apple
  • No multi-band GPS, weaker near tall buildings
  • Heart rate lags on hill sprints and surges
  • Fewer training metrics than a Forerunner
  • Few apps and a slow processor for a smartwatch
  • Wareable2023

Heart rate on 5-10 km runs came within 1 bpm of a Garmin HRM-Pro chest strap and GPS was mostly spot on against an Apple Watch Ultra 2; sleep tends to be over-counted. A great all-round fitness smartwatch, but pricey next to the Vivoactive 5 and Forerunner 265.

  • Android CentralNov 2023

On an hour-long run against a COROS chest strap and a Forerunner 965 it lagged on sudden effort changes but stayed close overall; GPS distance was off by only 0.04 miles. Best for people who want something between a smartwatch and a sports watch.

  • Android Authority2023

The tested Venu 3S closely matched a Polar H10 chest strap and an Apple Watch in rest, runs and indoor rides (some misses at interval peaks), GPS routes were clean, and sleep lined up with an Oura ring. Easy to recommend for fitness-minded buyers.

  • Tom's GuideOct 2023

Editor's Choice: one of the best fitness-focused smartwatches, with quick GPS lock and helpful sleep and workout guidance, though it lacks smartwatch apps; no measured accuracy comparison.

Reported by many owners

Common complaints

  • After a January 2025 update many owners saw fast battery drain and poor sleep detection; Garmin pushed 12.12 with general bug fixes
  • In late January 2025 many Garmin watches including the Venu 3 froze on a blue triangle or boot-looped when starting a GPS activity; Garmin acknowledged it and gave a power-cycle workaround
