Score breakdown
HR near strap in steady tests; lags in intervals, cold
Notifications only; no mic, music or apps
About two weeks heavy use; solar stretches it
Small low-res mono MIP; sharp in sun, dull indoors
Good training tools; single-band GPS wanders under trees
Tough MIL-STD polymer, 10 ATM; plain strap
Each part is rated on one scale for every smartwatch and band, from reviewers' accuracy tests and measured battery life where they exist, what reviewers found, specs and owner reports. It rates the product itself, not how good it is for the price.

OutdoorGearLabMar 2023
Tested the Solar: heart rate within half a beat of a Polar H10 on average and GPS about 0.11 miles off on a 2.8-mile course; a tough, simple, long-lasting watch without maps, colour or music.

CoachMar 2022
Tested the Solar: next to a chest strap it sometimes spiked on runs and lagged in intervals, and GPS cut corners and wandered under trees and buildings more than an Epix 2; about two weeks of heavy use per charge.

Expert ReviewsNov 2022
Heart rate was as good as other Elevate v4 Garmins when the fit was right, but cold and cycling vibration hurt it; the regular Instinct 2 is better value than the Solar unless you are outdoors a lot.
