Score breakdown
HR close to strap; strong sleep and health insights
Fast Wear OS, payments; some Samsung-only features
About 1.5 days; 2026 drain reports
Bright AMOLED, sapphire
Dual-band GPS good; distances often long
Slim aluminium, sapphire, IP68
Each part is rated on one scale for every smartwatch and band, from reviewers' accuracy tests and measured battery life where they exist, what reviewers found, specs and owner reports. It rates the product itself, not how good it is for the price.
Pros
- Heart rate close to a chest strap indoors
- Best GPS Samsung had made so far
- Sleep timing data very good
- Packed with useful health insights
- Distance closer to the reference than a Garmin
- Very fast GPS lock
- Average heart rate same as the Garmin
Cons
- Higher max heart rate than a strap on steady runs
- Distances often read long
- Battery no better than before; can die overnight
- Some features need a Samsung phone
- Max heart rate spiked to an unlikely 193 bpm
- No chest strap used, so heart rate only compared watch to watch
- Always-on display drains it within hours

WareableAug 2024
Clearly more accurate than the Watch6: heart rate tracked a chest strap on rowing and cycling, and dual-band GPS beat a Coros Pace 3 on park laps though it trailed a Forerunner 965 and often overstated distance; battery is still the weak spot.

Tom's GuideJul 2024
On a 9-mile Seattle bike ride the Watch7 (40mm) logged distance closer to Strava than a Garmin Forerunner 165 and locked GPS almost instantly; average heart rate matched the Garmin, though one max reading looked too high.

EngadgetFeb 2025
A quick, friendly partner for Samsung phones: workout heart rate was almost identical to an Apple Watch Series 9 and sleep and wake times matched it, though it counted more sleep and far more deep sleep; always-on screen eats the battery.
Reported by many owners
Common complaints
- Several waves of sudden battery drain in 2026 (April, June, July) hit Galaxy Watch6, 7 and 8 owners after software and Google Play Services updates; reported in tech news, no confirmed Samsung fix at the time
