For the starting version. Each part is measured the same way for every laptop (processor and graphics from benchmark results) and moves up or down with what reviewers praise or criticise.

Pros

  • Better value than OLED model
  • Everyday speed close to X Elite
  • No screen flicker (PWM)
  • Bright (~574 nits), accurate sRGB
  • Stable viewing angles
  • Strong multi-core speed, no slowdown on battery
  • Much better battery than older Surface Pros (~10 h real use)

Cons

  • Low contrast, greyish blacks
  • Glossy, reflective screen outdoors
  • Only 256GB base storage
  • Multi-core speed drops under long load
  • Emulated apps / Arm limits
  • No anti-reflective screen coating
  • Half-baked AI features
  • NotebookcheckAug 2024

Tested base X Plus X1P-64-100, 16GB/256GB, IPS. Much better value than the OLED model: same body, ports and speakers, and nearly the same everyday speed, but the screen has weak contrast.

  • Windows CentralNov 2024

Tested X Elite OLED, 16GB/512GB with Flex Keyboard and pen. The most exciting Surface Pro since the original and one of the best Windows PCs of 2024, as long as you don't need it for gaming.

  • Tom's GuideJun 2024

Tested X Elite OLED, 16GB/512GB. Editor's Choice: the best Surface 2-in-1 yet thanks to the fast chip, OLED option and 12+ hours of battery; pricey accessories and patchy AI are the catches.

  • MobileSyrupAug 2024

Tested X Elite OLED, 16GB/512GB. Microsoft's best Surface so far and a strong 2-in-1, but the design is barely changed and Windows on Arm still has glitches; skip it unless your old laptop needs replacing.
