For the starting version. Each part is measured the same way for every laptop (processor and graphics from benchmark results) and moves up or down with what reviewers praise or criticise.

Pros

  • Metal body feels solid and the hinge is steady
  • Comfortable backlit keys and a smooth glass touchpad
  • Plenty of ports for the money
  • Webcam with fill lights does fine on calls
  • Low price for a metal laptop
  • Lid opens with one hand and the hinge stays put
  • Roomy keyboard and touchpad

Cons

  • Speakers are weak
  • Slows down with many browser tabs
  • No numpad or fingerprint reader
  • Screen is not very bright
  • Hollow-sounding speakers
  • Struggles with video editing and many tabs
  • 91mobiles

Tested the InBook Y1 Plus with Core i3-1005G1 (same body as the Neo, bigger 50Wh battery and 65W charger): a sensible cheap metal laptop for browsing and office files, but not for heavy multitasking or graphics work.

  • MySmartPrice

Tested the InBook Y1 Plus with Core i3-1005G1, 8GB (same body as the Neo, 50Wh battery): dependable for writing, YouTube and browsing on a tight budget; look elsewhere for editing or heavy work.
