For the starting version. Each part is measured the same way for every laptop (processor and graphics from benchmark results) and moves up or down with what reviewers praise or criticise.

Pros

  • Very strong performance for what it cost
  • Easy to open, with free room for more RAM and a second SSD
  • Screen has good contrast and no flicker
  • Sturdy plastic body
  • Fast Wi-Fi
  • Plenty of USB ports plus LAN
  • Good battery life with the big 90 Wh pack (not in today's versions)

Cons

  • All-plastic lid flexes easily
  • Screen colours are washed out and pixel response is slow
  • Poor 720p webcam and no card reader
  • No Thunderbolt
  • Screen not bright enough for sunlight
  • Very low-resolution webcam
  • Lid opens only to about 120 degrees
