Each part is rated on one scale for every smartwatch and band, from reviewers' accuracy tests and measured battery life where they exist, what reviewers found, specs and owner reports. It rates the product itself, not how good it is for the price.

Pros

  • Heart rate matched a Polar H10 chest strap on runs
  • GPS distance and route more accurate than a dual-band Coros Pace 3
  • Step count within a few steps of a pedometer
  • Light, comfortable, with a clear AMOLED screen
  • Most accurate GPS and step count of the three
  • Average heart rate equal to the chest strap on a 5-mile run
  • Heart rate close to a chest strap

Cons

  • Music and Wi-Fi need the dearer Music edition
  • No Training Load or Training Status
  • Plastic look and thick bezel
  • GPS battery on the short side
  • Heart rate lagged on fast changes and downhills
  • GPS could take 4-5 minutes to lock
  • Sleep scores sometimes far from a second Garmin's
  • Against a Polar H10 chest strap its run average and minimum heart rate matched exactly (lagging a little on quick changes), and GPS stayed on the trail and measured a track lap spot on; the best budget Garmin for runners.

  • In a head-to-head with a Fitbit Charge 6 and Coros Pace 3 against a chest strap, it was the most accurate for GPS and steps and within 1-2 bpm on heart rate, though slightly slow on sudden changes.

  • Against a Garmin HRM-Pro Plus strap heart rate was usually within a couple of bpm (one run's max read 10 bpm high), and distances ran slightly long next to an Epix Pro; a superb watch for beginner and intermediate runners.
